Goals and Objectives
To improve outcomes for all gastroschisis patients by standardizing clinical practice utilizing quality improvement methods and conducting high quality research
Accomplishments
- Assessed variation in practice across all UCfC sites.
- Standardized management for gastroschisis infants.
- Demonstrated good adherence rates to a standardized pathway.
- Standardized pathway was associated decreased antibiotics, intubation and opioids days and time to first feed
- Standardized pathway was associated with increased use of bedside closure technique.
- Assessed fetal growth for infants with gastroschisis.
- Assessed rates of growth failure for gastroschisis
- Standardized nutritional management & demonstrated improvement in linear growth
- Developed a biorepository of stool and milk samples to better understand how the gut microbiome contributes to intestinal dysmotility
