Goals and Objectives
Evaluate Neonatal Outcomes after SCAMP: To evaluate rate of NICU admission, length of stay, birth growth parameters, head imaging, survival, feeding route and diet at discharge, home oxygen requirements before and after SCAMP.
Growth and CHD: How can we promote adequate growth while minimizing risk of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in neonates with CHD?
- To define growth, growth failure, and incidence of NEC in neonates with CHD.
- To identify risk factors for growth failure and NEC in infants with CHD.
- To develop a risk-stratified feeding protocol for initiation and advancement of enteral feeding in infants with CHD to promote growth and minimize NEC.
- To study growth failure and NEC rates pre- and post-feeding protocol implementation.
Social Determinants of Health and CHD: How do social determinants of health influence maternal and neonatal outcomes in pregnancies affected by fetal CHD?
- Define the influence of social determinants of health (race, ethnicity, family insurance coverage, family zip code, primary language) on maternal and neonatal outcomes.
- Strive to move past descriptor analysis and focus on actionable items.
Accomplishments
- Updated REDCap entry to reflect projects as defined above, expanding on prior data collection.
- Demonstrated feasibility of collecting maternal and neonatal detailed data at a single site, UCLA, by creating a multidisciplinary team: 2 primary investigators (undergraduate and post-bacc), 3 team members conducting data abstraction (Neo fellow, 2 pediatric residents), 2 mentors (MFM attending and Neo attending).

Ongoing Projects
- As defined in goals and objectives, we have 3 ongoing projects: Neonatal Outcomes after SCAMP, CHD+Growth, CHD+SDoH.
- We aim to submit preliminary single-site data in August 2023 to SMFM and WSPR conferences, to be held in 2024.
